This week I want your opinion. Next school year the library will have what is called a public access catalog (PAC). Everyone will be able to access the card catalog from any computer. This will enable us to have ebooks and audiobooks to check out to your computers. I would like to know what you think about reading on your computer. I want to know if you have read a book, or long story on your computer before. Do you think this will make reading easier, or more attactive? I also want to know what you think about downloading an audiobook from our catalog. Would listening to a book be better than reading it?
Please tell everyone in your class to answer this blog question this week. I want to know what you think of this. Please be honest, your help will direct the ordering for next year.
I have gotten an ebook on my computer before, but then I printed it. I think it is a great idea, but I probably won't use it unless there is a book that looks really good and it isn't at the library. I probably will use it thought if it reads to you.
ReplyDeleteI personally like reading books out of a book not a computer. I would't like it would make reading fun. If people get rid of books and read from computers I think that would be super lame
ReplyDeleteI have gotten a book on my phone and it was alright. It was just like reading a real paper book. I would like it because you wouldn't have to keep track of where your book is and it would be easy to check it out and return it. It would also be a good idea because there would be more of a selection of books.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we should be able to read books on our computers because just doing school work wastes our batteries enough and we would be charging them constantly. I also think it is easier to read hard copies because you have to scroll down a lot. On just a book you can just move your eyes. We read a short story on our computers once this year for Mrs.Allen that I didn't really like. This is just going to make reading harder than it is right now. I don't think we should download anything either because I'm not really one of the technology nerds in this world. I think that listening to the book on our computers would work out okay. It's funner than reading 50,000 words.
ReplyDeleteI think reading on the computer is a good idea because it would be easier to read the writing and you wouldnt have to worry about losing papers.Or having the book torn up.Or have smugde markes all over it.We have read 2 short stories on the computer before for L.A.I think this would make reading easier.I wouldnt want to download an audio book because then your not doing as much work as you would if you were reading.

ReplyDeleteI think reading on the computer would be nice to be able to do. I always carry my book in my computer case and it gets annoying when I'm putting away my laptop and I have to move it so it doesn't get squished. I think it would be better to have everything in one place. But, if we read books on the computer and something goes wrong with the computer it might have to get wiped and we will have to redownload the book again and that might take a while.

ReplyDeleteI think the ebook thing would be a good idea. when it reads the book to you maybe it will make better sense to the person who's reading it. But it could make some people tempted to get on games. I just think the library could get more interesting books to read.
ReplyDeleteI think using this PAC system will be good for our school. It will make kids want to read, because of the use of technology. I think that it will have a lot more variety for students to read. If it were me, I would want to read the book myself, instead of someone reading it to me.
ReplyDeleteI personally would not like it, for the reason that it would take up so much battery, and may hurt your eyes from staring at the computer for so long. We will be charging are computers all day at school and all night at home just for one lousy book.
ReplyDeleteI hate reading I know I sound like a jerk but it's not cool I hate reading. I think reading on computers isn't a good idea I mean it can hurt your eyes and you will run your batterie on your computer low like half of the kids in the grade don't charge there computers a night so I think we shouldn't do it.
ReplyDeleteI think that that would be awesome to use the PAC system because then we can just look up the book on our computer and read it instead of walking all the way down to the library looking for a book then checking it out, so I think we should use that system.
ReplyDeleteI think it is going to be a great idea because if there is a book that is not in the library i will be able to look up the book and be able to read it on my computer. The only disadvantage of this is that you are taking up battery and if it dies on you and you do not remember the page you were on you will have to find what page it would be on.

I kinda like the idea of getting this kind of program. One reason why I do not want it though is cause I would rather read out of a book not off a computer. It would be easier to keep tract of the book though. You could probably find any book you want so that would be one nice thing. But I wouldn't want this kind of program cause im not fond of computers and looking at the screen a lot hurts my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it is a good idea because I like looking for books in the library and seeing the different covers for them. Reading just a little paragraph on the computer is hard for me because it hurts my eyes and the words get blurry so I can't really see them. People now barely get their AR books done and that means if we were to download books to our computer it would make it tempting for the people who like to play games.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a good idea because i don't like reading real books and i think i wouldn't like to read books on a computer. I have never read a book on a computer and i don't want to read one on a computer. It would hurt your eyes to read the computer for a long time, and the teacher would always ask if you are on games or if you are reading. It would also take alot of time to download the books to a compute. If you took an accelerated reader test you could also just look back on the computer to where it says it in the book.

ReplyDeleteI don't think i would like this program. I like to read out of a real book. The reasons i wouldn't want to read tis way is because of, loss of battrey, it does hurt your eyes if you have been staring at the screen to long, and I like it how it is now.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that it's a good idea. Not a lot of people would download tho books because they would get distracted by games or something else. We also would have to charge our computers during school because my battery is already almost dead by the end of the school day. Also it hurts my eyes to read the small writing on the computer screen.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think that would be a good idea. I think for some people it might, but I like to actually pick up a book and read it then to have to listen to someone read it, or read it on the computer. I don't like when other people read it to me because I toon out.

ReplyDeleteOn my opinion I think it is a great idea people might read them more if they are on the computers. I have never read a book on the computer. Having the audio is a great idea to I have listened to the book twilight and i loved it. My grandma listens to books in her car all the time and she loves them. I think having these things would be an awesome idea.

Reading books on our computer would save tree's, but some people can't stand to look at there computer for a long period of time, just like me. I honestly would rather listen to a book than read it! I think that for some people they would read more, because they just like being on there computers, but for some people, it may be harder, and not as active. Yes, it is a great idea, and we should recommend getting them.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a good idea. on a computer your eyes will get tired of looking at a lighten screen during a long book, and i personally like reading paper copy books, if i read at all.
ReplyDeleteI have read a long story on my computer before, and I have to say, it was a good story. But I think that it would be a little more active, but not much. But I don't like to read on my computer, because it gives me a headache, and it hurts my eyes. But I still think that it is a good idea, and that it would be easier for some kids. And if we do the ebooks, we don't have to worry about the books getting ruined, torn, and spilled on anymore. But I think we should get them!

And it would be a good thing cause it would read to you. instead of you reading and your eyes getting tired from looking at the writing. It also takes a while to walk down to the library and check out a book.
ReplyDeleteI think we should stick to just reading the books out of paper because it wastes battery, and if we want to read and we get our computers up, we could get into trouble because teachers would say we are playing games. One of the only good things about getting the books online is we don't have to worry about them overdue. But still I think we should just use books made of paper!

ReplyDeleteI don't think that it is a very good idea. Reading short things on the computer is fine, but if I read to much on the computer, my eyes will start to hurt. I also think that they wound not be a good idea because people would be distracted by games and music. It would also effect our computers by using the battery. If the battery does not last long, then our computers won't either.
ReplyDeleteI like actually having a real book in my hands. I think that it would be go for people that like to read books, but the book that they wanted was taken. I think that it would be a good thing to try. I really don't like aduiobooks. I comprehend more when I actually read the book.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that reading books off the computer will be good because after a while when I read things on my computer my eyes start to hurt. Also it would where down our computer batteries a lot faster than they would if we just used them for school work. There would be many distractions on the computer like games, music, chatting with friends, and stuff like that. There would be some good things like the fact that you wouldn't loose the book, or wreck the book, and there would be a better variety. But to me there are more dislikes than likes to this way of reading so I don't think that most people would like this, but maybe some will and some won't either way it doesn't matter to me.

ReplyDeleteI would love for this to happen! Having a digital book is basically the same as the real one, but it doesn't have any mass. I would use this library a ton if they had good books. Listening to them makes it even easier for kids who don't like to read. It's like TV without the pictures. I support this idea! And yes I've read book online and saw no difference.
ReplyDeleteI love reading, but reading on a computer gives me a head ach. I also don't like when people read to me because I don't pay attention as much as when I read it to myself. I'm sure it would be better for some people though. It would encourage them to read more since it's on a computer, but to be honest, I wouldn't really use it much if at all.
ReplyDeleteI personaly don't like reading on the computer most of the time. Audio books could like to have things the people say in it how I see it. When I listen to someone else read a story I may disagree on how it should sound, and you can put more expresion in it if you are reading it.

I also love reading a book because you can enjoy it with out worrying about your computer dying or things like that. I like ready hard cover books. I also like looking for books in the library.
ReplyDeleteI think reading books on the computer would be better. With books on the computer you don't have to wait for someone to return it and you wont have to remember to return it. I am not a big fan of remembering things so it makes easier for me. No due dates so you can take as long as you want reading the book.

I think we should give it a try and see how we like it and if we don't we can go back to reading hard books. I no I'm going to try it.
