  1. I think that Once in a blue moon means that it is very unlikely that something will happen or that there is a very rare chance that will happen.

  2. Once in a blue moon means that something doesn't happen very often. There will be about 41 months with two full moons in a century, so once in a blue moon is actually about once every two and a half years. The moon does actually not turn blue.

The Blue Moon is the second full moon to occur in a calendar month.

  3. A blue moon is the second full moon in a 1 month. For a blue moon to happen, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month (the average time between two full moons is 29.5 days). Since this is so rare people compare it to something else that is also rare. Someone might say it when an eclipse.

  4. Blue moon is a second full moon in a calendar month. Once in a blue moon means that you can only do that once and if you try it again you wont be able to do that thing again, For example once in a blue moon could be for throwing a softball to someone in a gym and having it hit the rim of the basketball hoop and coming strait back to you.

  5. It means that on average, there will be 41 months that have two full moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years. Scientists say that it's very rare to have a blue moon because they say it turns blue because of smoke from forest fires. There is a fun day in school about once in a blue moon.

A Blue Moon is the second Full Moon to occur in a single month. The average interval between Full Moons is about 29.5 days. The length of an average month is about 30.5 days. This makes it very unlikely that any given month will have two Full Moons, though it does sometimes happen. And no, the moon is never blue.

Something like not studying for a test and guessing on all the answer and getting 100% on a test could be once in a blue moon.

  29. Once in a Blue Moon ... is a common way of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon?
According to the popular definition, it is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month.

The average interval between Full Moons is about 29.5 days, whilst the length of an average month is roughly 30.5 days. This makes it very unlikely that any given month will contain two Full Moons, though it does sometimes happen.

On average, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years.
